Spring 2006 Courses		Solo Cello/Solo Viols Two Mondays, February 6 and 13, 7:00–8:30 p.m. Mirabeau, 3202 Argonne (one block east of Kirby, one-half block south of West Alabama) Limited Enrollment Barrett Sills will play and discuss the most noble of stringed instruments and some of its early cousins. The first session includes works by Romantic composers and a suite for unaccompanied cello by Johann Sebastian Bach. In the second session Sills will demonstrate instruments of the viol family and compare them with the modern cello; music may include works of Telemann and the great French gambist Marin Marais (subject of the 1991 film Tous les Matins du Monde). A prizewinner in international competitions, Sills is heard frequently on cello, Baroque cello, and viola da gamba, in music ranging from early to contemporary. He was teaching assistant to Aldo Parisot at Yale University, where as undergraduate he won the Belding Internship Award from the Yale School of Music. He traveled in South America as Artistic Ambassador, performed with orchestras in France and Germany, and taught at the Conservatoire de Boulogne-Billancourt near Paris.
