Menil House Lecture and Tour Thursday, April 20 or Thursday, April 27, 6:00 p.m. In 1948, John and Dominique de Menil commissioned New York architect Philip Johnson to design their house in Houston. This residence, completed in 1951, was the first postwar, international-style house in Houston and for many years contained the de Menils’ extensive collection of art. The house was left to the Menil Foundation in 1997 and was in need of renovation. Over a period of three years, Stern and Bucek Architects of Houston preserved and restored the home’s serene modern architecture. William F. Stern, who directed the renovation, will give a tour and an illustrated talk.
