THE BROADWAY MUSICAL – THE LAST FIFTY YEARS

This course will explore the Broadway musical from 1950 to the present. Starting with the influence of Rodgers and Hammerstein, Alley Theatre actor Paul Hope will discuss the use of the “super director,”the development of the “concept musical,” and Stephen Sondheim. Each session will be enhanced by video, film footage, taped interviews and personal anecdotes.

Paul Hope has been a resident actor at the Alley Theatre for 11 seasons and is a veteran of 40 Theatre Under the Stars productions. He toured nationally with “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas” and “Mame.”
