Houston is a city of bayous, ponds and parks, but are they easily accessible to Houstonians? Is the quality of life in our city sufficiently enhanced by parks, recreational opportunities, and open spaces? Does Buffalo Bayou have the potential for greatness - a Central Park for Houston?

A Saturday canoe trip becomes a floating classroom with several guides and Don Greene, a naturalist and expert on Texas rivers. The Monday evening presentation will consist of three speakers: Anne Olson, President of Buffalo Bayou Partnership, will relate the bayou's history; Dr. John Crompton, Distinguished Professor at Texas A & M University's Recreation, Parks and Tourism Sciences Department, will speak on the economic benefits of open space; Jane Thompson, principal of Thompson Design in Boston, will unveil the historic plan for the beautification of Buffalo Bayou.

This course is dedicated to the memory of Jane Howe Gregory (1943-2001).
