MEET THE BUS IN THE RICE UNIVERSITY STADIUM PARKING LOT BY THE CAMPUS POLICE STATION AT ENTRANCE 8 OFF UNIVERSITY BOULEVARD AT STOCKTON STREET

During this half-day study tour of Houston's historic Main Street, we will examine the history, architecture, personalities, and distinctive places along Main Street from Hollywood Bayou on North Main Street all the way south to the Astrodomain area and Loop 610 South. This course will mix a limited number of stops with a narrated driving tour of Main Street's different segments. It will focus on the historic development of the street and the areas adjacent to it. We will examine recent urban improvements and projected new developments.

Anne S. Bohnn is chair of the Foundation for Main Street.

Stephen Fox is a fellow of the Anchorage Foundation of Texas and coauthor of Main Street Houston (1992).

A catered lunch will be provided.

A companion seminar on the developemnt of Main Street will be held next fall.
