Austin Art and Architecture: Another Capital Idea

Among other highlights, this two-day study of Austin art and architecture will include a privately guided tour of the newly opened Blanton Museum of Art, the largest university museum in the country, which has a notable permanent collection of 17,000 works. We will inaugurate our visit to Austin with a VIP tour of the restored Texas State Capitol and its historic grounds. A cocktail reception at the home of Jeanne and Mickey Klein will include a viewing of their outstanding collection of avant-garde art. An architect of the world-renowned Lake/ Flato firm will join us to talk about the Kleins' house and other Austin projects. Participants will stay at the Hotel San Jose, a 1939 structure restored to modern elegance by Lake/Flato. We also will visit another important private collection.

Cost of the study tour is $550.00. This cost includes ground transportation to/from Austin by motor coach and one night's accommodation at the Hotel San Jose (based on double occupancy); lectures, museum admissions, and privately guided tours; Thursday and Friday lunches and Thursday dinner. The price does not include breakfast, travel insurance, hospitalization, or evacuation costs. Participants are responsible for any charges made within the hotel.

Payment schedule: Registration and a deposit of $200.00 per person must be received by August 25, 2006. Balance is due on or before September 25, 2006. Reservations canceled in writing after August 25 will result in a cancellation fee of $100. For reservations canceled after September 25, we regret we cannot offer refunds unless your place can be filled from the waiting list. A handling fee may be deducted from such refund. Participants must sign the Houston Seminar's standard waiver of liability.

Mobility and Fitness to Travel: Participants must be in excellent health and able to participate in tour activities. Any person who, in the sole opinion of the Houston Seminar is unfit for travel or whose physical or mental condition may constitute a danger to themselves or to others, may be refused the opportunity to participate in this tour. The Houston Seminar reserves the right to decline or accept the tour registration of any person at any time and to retain or to require the withdrawal of any person as a member of this tour at any time.
